Happy Easter! Doesn't the very word make you think of flowers? These are some of my current favourites on our balcony.
During our recent trip to Suffolk we took in a daffodil show in a village called Benhall. This was one of the prizewinners - it hardly looks real. I'm trying to remember the name of the variety - does anyone know? I'll buy some bulbs next autumn.
One category was for sprays of spring blossom - here is a selection below.
And here is a whole array of cheerful prizewinners. I always wish that daffodil shows could give more space to the flowers; but I guess there is just not much space in village halls once you've fitted in the stalls, the teas and the people.....
As well as the flower contest, there were various stalls, including a stall with plants from the villagers' gardens, and of course there were cups of tea and cakes.
F. bought us a bunch of flowers and I have been looking at the patterns and details of them with delight.
I love the way the petals glisten in these narcissi.
I am trying to stay off chocolate for Easter, although K bought us each a PINK chocolate duck. I will be too intrigued not to eat it. Wonder if it is flavoured? I hope so.
At this particular time, I like to reflect on how lucky we are to live in a peaceful and free country - those of us who do, are among the luckiest people on earth..
Once again - Happy Easter!
What a lovely spring post Jenny! Wish you and your family a happy EASTER!

Flowers are synonymous with Easter and I enjoyed seeing the lovely photos (I admittedly want the cake and the pink duck). Here in the mountains of Tennessee winter was very reluctant to leave, and the flowers are just beginning to bloom.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Easter!
Winter has loosened its grip on England today and we have what seems to us almost summery weather (I mean in the high sixties, which counts for summer here)
DeleteSomeone said, "The Earth laughs with flowers." Nice thought, and wonderful pictures.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very nice phrase Stephen. I will remember it
DeleteHappy Easter to You & Yours
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting the lovely flower photographs
Happy Easter! What a blessing that we have time in our lives for flowers, and peace to celebrate a holiday as we choose, and if we choose.
ReplyDeleteSo very true, and I think it more and more, as I listen to the news each day.
DeleteI agree, we are lucky. My daffodils are all done for the year, I did have some white and yellow ones similar to your picture. I have loads of Pansies and they'll stay around till it gets too hot here.
ReplyDeleteHave a Happy Easter,
What a lovely post.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are wonderful and so does the cake !
Happy Easter
cheers, parsnip
I celebrate Passover, but Happy Easter and Spring to you...
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter, Jenny - your balcony pansies are very pretty, and who doesn't enjoy a flower show?
ReplyDeletePink Easter duck looks very cute - and delicious!
Ship any leftover Cadbury chocolates to us as soon as possible, please.
ReplyDeleteNever any leftovers, Jerry!!
DeleteDaffodils are very special flowers, I love them. Happy Easter, Jenny.
ReplyDeleteDear Jenny, Happy Easter to you and your loved ones, too!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, we are so lucky (some would say blessed) to live in the place we live, at the time we do - especially for women. Here, our biggest worries (generally speaking, not my own) as women seem to be what to wear and how to lose weight, where in way too many places on the planet it's sheer survival day after day in a hostile world.
I'd have loved to visit the flower show, and have tea and cake there! The pink chocolate duck looks too cute to be eaten :-)
Yes, when you consider the lives of so many other people it really puts our problems in perspective! The flower show was a lovely event, perhaps partly because it was so local and villagey.
DeleteHappy Easter - I think you are a week or two ahead of us here in the sticks. The daffodils are out here but the blossom is waiting another day or two.
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope you enjoy your Easter duck My granddaughter bought me a chocolate bunny, and promptly asked if I didn't think it was time to eat it! (I did get a bit of a look-in!)
Haha! at least my daughter doesn't hang around waiting for mouthfuls... well, to be honest she is probably a bit too old....
DeleteMy goodness how difficult to fine tune an opinion on a daffodil for first, second or third place and what a quaint festival! Easter blessings to you as well.
ReplyDeleteVery long time no talk! I haven't been as active on social media as I used to be, but I had to pop in to say hallo when I saw these beautiful flowers. If I may repeat a sentiment I've shared before: nothing beats spring in England. Hope you're doing well and is full of the joys of spring, Jenny! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you - I have been meaning to write to you... and about 10 other people too... one of these days I will surprise everyone :D Hope you enjoyed cherry blossom time.
DeleteHappy Easter !
ReplyDeleteAmazing post and beautiful flowers. Thanks for sharing these beauties with us.
Flowers bring positive energy, emit cool vibes, make people happy and add a sparkle wherever they are. That cake looks yummy !
Lovely post !
Could not locate any share buttons like Google plus and twitter below posts, otherwise would have shared this wonderful post the very same moment itself. Please add those asap :)

I have done it now. Thanks for your comment!
DeleteHappy Easter...such a lovely springtime post!
ReplyDeleteI sent mother some scented narcissi from the Scillies - an ew variety which looked like tiny roses. She was most suspicious and wondered whether I had been 'done'!
I am now wondering if she thought they were a new and not very good variety of rose, or a new and stunted variety of daffodil! :)
DeleteHappy Easter! I can't find words to describe how beautiful it is to see those flowers. They are totally a bliss to my eyes.
ReplyDeleteEaster--I only remember it as a time where you wondered if the snow would be melted away yet and, as a kid, were my legs going to freeze in my Easter dress--LOL! Love the flower pics!! Happy Easter! :)
ReplyDeleteOh I remember that feeling of freezing legs when I was a kid! how it brings it back to me.... :)
DeleteI couldn't agree with your Easter thanks more. I think you were lucky to catch such a springy and beautiful event -- that one daffodil is to die for! But each and every one is simply beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSending happy Easter wishes you way. Enjoy that sweet duck!
Thank you Jeanie! I still haven't eaten the duck, but I will.....I keep wanting to put him in the bath :)
DeleteFor me the spray of simple Spring blossoms are all winners. I love a nice bunch of daffs as well. Good luck with Pinky and a Happy and Peaceful Easter.
ReplyDeleteI love sprays of blossom although I like blossom even better on a tree.
DeleteHappy Easter. Your flowers in your 1st photo look award winning to me. Those delicate purple edges! Agreed, very thankful to live in a country at peace.
ReplyDeleteThank you! yes I really love those pansies, and admire them every day....
DeleteSubtle distinctions between the daffodil flower show winners from my perspective. We are enjoying the spring flowers here in Louisiana, although today is rainy and chilly.
ReplyDeleteWe are just starting to get some summer-like weather in London. It is so welcome!
DeleteThe colours and variety of flowers are astonishing.
ReplyDeleteThe daffs look similar to what I am told are wild daffs, the type seen by thon poet while wandering lonely like a cloud.
Eat the duck!
I once saw a host of the wild daffs, an amazing sight indeed. IN Wales not in the Lake district though. But I am sure they were just as good!
DeleteBloomin' beautiful blooms! I hope you're having a lovely Easter, Jenny. :)
ReplyDeleteWe down this way are lucky too, living in the country we do..and I hope with all my heart the status quo remains.
Happy Easter, the daffodils are just lovely. We still have no spring bulbs in our neck of the woods here in Southern Ontario. By the end of the week it should start to warm up. I couldn't decide how one bunch of daffodils won over another, they all look the same to me.....
ReplyDeleteGill in Canada
No, I do not understand how they can tell the difference. The judge was from the Royal Horticultural Society though. They must have their ways and means......
Deletethe flowers of Spring are not here yet and there are still some clumps of snow, but it is coming...the temperature is up and we are getting some good weather
ReplyDeleteI'm a day late but it looks like you had a great Easter. Flower shows are fun aren't they? I always want to come right home and plant something.

ReplyDeleteI don't know why this was removed, Adullamite, I was trying to manage the blog on my phone though and Safari doesn't support Blogger so perhaps it did something weird. how annoying.
Delete>:-(
You're right; the flowers in the second photo don't look real. Are all of those blossoms attached to the one stem?
ReplyDeleteYes, they are all attached. They are quite small, and make a lovely show when you see several stems together.
DeleteLove all you flower pictures. The German word for daffodils, translated literally, is "Easter bells." Quite a fitting name! I hope you and your family had a nice Easter, though the sentiment of "staying off chocolate" is very foreign to me. :-)
ReplyDelete:) I love the idea of daffodils being called Easter bells. What a lovely name!
DeleteWonderful flowers, Jenny! Lovely too that flowers remind you of Easter more than chocolate eggs and bunnies ;)
ReplyDeleteI hold my breath to the constant cruelty happening in the world and am thankful to peace, security, and comfort I have, too. I have been wondering what’s the difference between “narcissus” and “daffodil”, and I think I now understand; “daffodil” is the one with a bigger trumpet form and “narcissus” has a smaller face. Right? I like your balcony flowers and your selection of red Japanese quince and perhaps sakura at the event. Easter is not so observed in Japan, but I remember being happy with painted eggs given at my kindergarten run by Christian church. At any event, a cake with a cup of tea is tempting. Hope you had a lovely Easter, Jenny.
ReplyDeleteYoko
You don't know how much your picture helped me. Its grey and muddy out. We still aren't to good weather yet. I have to say I think your flowers were every bit as beautiful as the ones at the show.
ReplyDeleteI really like those ruffly pansies.
ReplyDeleteTechnically the pink duck is not chocolate at all. Like white chocolate it is a confection. It's made with cocoa butter, which is a derviative from the cocoa bean but has none of the coca solids that give real chocolate it's smell and flavor.
