I was shocked to discover that Texas actually has a Lavender Festival. It is held every June in Blanco, which is several hundred miles east of where I live. (here in hopeless West Texas we only have annoying weeds!).
Wonderful picture - and comment text-colour to match! The Lavendar in my garden has survived the slug-onslaught. What an inspiring plant - pretty, relaxing, scented, wards-off moths and defys slugs in a rain storm! Thanks for sharing
Hi Jenny, Thanks, did I need that! It made 'scents' to me. I've heard a rumour that the mysterious glowing orb, but a whimsical memory, may someday some day shine again upon this green and getting greener land :)
It's so beautiful. We don't have them here, I think, only the smell gets captured in soaps/fabric softeners, etc.
Managed to get a whiff of the real stuff in New Zealand, though. It made us (2 friends and myself) stop in our tracks outside someone's garden to check it out. The house owners must have thought we were mad (if they'd seen us)
Many people here have lavender in their gardens, often planted next to roses; apparently it helps to keep the roses free of bugs. At the moment, I enjoy lavender scent every morning - the shower gel I am currently using is made with lavender from the Provence :-)
Just like my back garden! Except for the blue sky, and dry ground and er... miles of space. But I do have a few pots of lavender - and I will sit out there sometime this summer!
Lavender is wonderful in both forms, colour and perfume. Yesterday I finished a jigsaw puzzle of a lavender field similar to your photograph. Coincidence!
This is a nice surprise..you are showing a lavender farm, somewhere, and my daughter is going on a 5K run tomorrow at a lavender farm. How sweet is that?
There used to be a beautiful large lavender farm near where I live in New Zealand. They made all sorts of lavender products and had a lovely tea room. I went back one year and it had closed and all the plants went wild within a couple of years. I thought it was rather sad.
The wife must not see this picture. I repeat the wife must not see this picture. If she does, she is going to drag me here. And saying drag makes it sound so negative but it is quite lovely. I just know if I am going to England I am going to make her watch an English Premier League game first then we can go to the lavender farm. Have a good one.
I've just been looking at two photographs of a lavender field in Somerset. One last year, an ocean of deep blue and one this year: green with the odd spot of blue.
Jenny, Your Lavender summer looks so comfortable and dry!! I want to have summer like this. From my PC their soothing fragrance is coming. I wish I could see a lavender field. keiko
Is lavender evocative of summer to British people? I can almost feel the scent of the lavender from the rows of the field. Lavender and rose are my favorite aroma of shampoo.
Oh I just love this, Jenny! I can almost smell the scent of lavender here ... or is it just because I did the laundry? It's the scent that's all around our house. My bath gel is lavender. The dried flowers in the bathroom are lavender. The laundry dryer sheets are lavender. I'm sure it's on other things I haven't inventoried, like hand soap, etc.
Strangely enough, this photo is the first time I've ever seen a lavender field. So beautiful!
Oh, one of my absolute favorite scents! I believe my Heaven may well be comprised of three big fields - one of lavender, one of lilacs, and another to play ball on.
And you can almost ... mmmmmm ... smell it!
ReplyDeleteooh I can smell the lavender....if not feel the heat!!
ReplyDeleteOoooh! I can almost smell it!

ReplyDeleteFunny how smells remind us of a time in our lives. For me it's the smell of roses that remind me of summer.

ReplyDeleteI wish we could grow lavender here in Oregon but it's too damp.
ReplyDeleteSooooooo pretty! Purple is one of my favorite colors.
ReplyDeletePlease put me in a field of lavender anywhere in the world, and this island would suit me nicely. Thank you!

Nuts in May
Oh lush - I can imagine the aroma in walking there.
ReplyDeleteAnna :o]
Isn't summer one of those urban myths?
ReplyDeleteAre you sure you didn't sneak in a photo of Southern France for us? I can imagine myself walking through that field of lavender.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Lavender drops often go into my bathwater for a natural, unwind inhalation. Been know to actually drop off a time or two!
ReplyDeleteI bet the summer breeze gives off a scent of lavender, but don't get any sand in your shoes.
ReplyDeleteOh this wonderful photo so reminded me of the two astounding Lavender Farms near us when we farmed in Tasmania. I could roll in the natural stuff! :)
