Mad in Syria - Krac des Chevaliers under the Pharaohs

Krac des Chevaliers is a huge crusader castle near Homs, in Syria.   But these Biblical looking characters are not the usual inhabitants. And surely the place is not generally associated with ancient Egypt..?

But they were filming a movie there earlier this month, and the venerable fortress had been transformed into a Pharaoh's palace. As for the Bible characters, in fact Syria is where you will find Ma'aloula, one of the few places where Aramaic, the language of Jesus, is still spoken.   More of that later.

  1. ...like the Pharaohs had pointed arches and cross-vaulted ceilings... Doh!

Not that anyone really cares: old is old, right? ;-)
