I was wondering what it needed. I make a cake now and then partly because my sister in law likes to have some, and she's always really kind about my efforts, so I try to come up with new ideas. Apple carrot and raisin sound good together - a little bit of carrot's really underrated IMO. Also I oftn replace a small amount of the flour with ground almonds. One thing I've discovered recently is a mix of clove cinnamon and nutmeg, not too much of each but it's delicious!Jenny Woolfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16881781466502273314noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7937298116504825290.post-38792938525949336392021-03-10T18:02:32.785+00:002021-03-10T18:02:32.785+00:00Yes, I'm getting to hate Zoom. And there's a new version out, directed by Ben Wheatley whose work I generally like. Haven't seen it yet but people tell me it's not as good as Hitchcock's, Mind you, as with so many older films, I now think that it is showing its age a bit in terms of attitudes and assumptions, to the extent that one starts to feel a little unsure about what he is trying to say sometimes. Do you notice that?Jenny Woolfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16881781466502273314noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7937298116504825290.post-7713907929080472692021-03-10T17:50:37.375+00:002021-03-10T17:50:37.375+00:00I'm glad you got your vaccination but sad that...I'm glad you got your vaccination but sad that it has triggered off a bad response in you. My sleep swings from good to bad. I can't figure out what I have to do to keep it as "good". As soon as I think I've nailed it and it starts to improve, I find myself lying awake again. I was sorry to read about the delays in vaccination in Germany, but it always seems to me that nobody can get everything right in a situation where we are learning all the time, and even a small mistake can have disproportionate consequences, or so it seems to me. Now, the snowdrops (always so welcome) are fading but it lifts my spirits to see daffodils .... and yesterday I actually saw some beautiful bright red tulips! The twins are now back at school and I think it has been very good for them to return. It surprised me to see how much school work they had forgotten. But, of course, children do live very much in the moment, which is one of the joys of being with them! Your vaccination will now be a great deal nearer and the mental relief of having had it will be welcome, I think. (One of the nice things about blogging is learning new stuff). Mary Hopkin was a good actor as well. (Well, she is still alive so I must not refer to her in the past tense.) But I realised this when I saw a film about the making of Dylan Thomas's Under Milk Wood and she was filmed acting for that. Some people are so talented. At first I thought it must be Buddhist and wondered what it was doing there but I have come to the conclusion it was a beautiful work of art, and possibly one he designed himself. Now a couple more weeks, (well, nearly) have passed, I hope that the iron grip of winter is starting to show signs of thawing in TN. Yes, I am inclined to agree, an old cemetery is more interesting than a new one, partly because the old gravestones are often ancient enough to suggest a very different way of life to what we have now, and give a sense of continuity.
