They reveal the increase in welath of the town or the importance of the Lord, who always had how own church near his Hall.<br />"Some say it is the Harrowing of Hell, showing the rescue of one of the good people who existed before Jesus, who all had to go to Hell of course, since they did not know Him." Bit unfortunate for Moses and Elijah who both stood beside Jesus on the mount. Jesus death was 'looked forward to' by many in the previous days, even though they did not appreciate this. Some say Jesus death took him to Hell (Sheol or Hades) to call them forth. Argue with a theologian re this. Quite what was going on round that baptistry I fail to understand, a well known position for me, one of ignorance. <br />There is a Yew tree ina Perthshire churchyard supposedly thousands of years old. Some say 3000, some 5000. Who knows, like yours it is very big. Were Yews not used to make English bows? Amazing to sit inside a tree, no wonder you didn't wish to leave.<br />Yet another great tour.Adullamitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15537659871829290071noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7937298116504825290.post-68624611946811128752022-05-27T21:20:37.249+01:002022-05-27T21:20:37.249+01:00Some wonderful carvings, and a magnificent font. I hope nobody decides a car park would be more useful than the 1500-year-old yew tree. Fourteen trees are threatened with the chop in Portaferry to make way for a car park extension.nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10472673041193755894noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7937298116504825290.post-44661609269802905732022-05-27T17:05:16.584+01:002022-05-27T17:05:16.584+01:00Jenny, this is fascinating. Clearly, you come to these places with some knowledge in your historical memory bank of what things might be then as well as now (or else they have very good guidebooks and I'm not sure about that!). The detail of the photos is wonderful. I loved the memorials -- both the elegant couple and the wooden steward. And the tree is fascinating -- I love that you went within and in doing so, could see out from the top. What an experience. It takes time to explore and dig and truly understand and I admire that you could learn -- and share -- so much!Jeaniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17482528482559445943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7937298116504825290.post-33066705190755898012022-05-26T14:47:48.384+01:002022-05-26T14:47:48.384+01:00Wow! Old parish churches often have gargoyles and imps and things which we would not expect in a church, here. It was obviously part of the way they thought.
