Comments not appearing - and New Zealand.

I'm sorry if your comments are not appearing.  I haven't had a comment for days. Usually I get quite a few. I'm wondering if it is the end of the relationship for me and Blogger. I've had problems with it for ages, and now if the comments are just disappearing, well, it means I can't have any contact with you all .... I've posted a query on Google Help and I'll try moving to a different template. If that doesn't work, well, I don't know. It might have to be a divorce!

Meanwhile, if you want to contact me (hopefully with suggestions) then try a comment... or else,  I hope the contact button is still working on my profile!  And meanwhile, I'm posting a few photos of New Zealand. I would have told you about that ages ago if I hadn't had so much to say about Japan.

What a lovely place it is - it really seems as if every bend in the road you come across another amazing bit of scenery.  All the pictures in this post were taken in November, within easy driving distance of Christchurch.  Summer was coming, Spring flowers were out but the weather was pretty windy.

This below is a Kea, a kind of parrot. They're pretty mischievous, and very tame.  Underneath their wings they have a wonderful blaze of red, and I have a photo showing this. But I also like this one, which shows how their colouring blends with their natural habitat.  The bird had snaffled some crackers from someone who had parked nearby

This is near Godley Head

And this is a range of mountains near Castle Hill

The resort of Akoroa

The coastline near Lyttleton

and windsurfing near a place called Taylor's Mistake. I wonder what his mistake actually was?

A hiking path through acres of dazzlingly yellow gorse bushes (they stretched all around, in all directions) which I'd have loved to trudge along, looking at the sea views down the hillside.

This path one by the sea was even more inviting, and after the faded colours of so much autumn vegetation in England and Japan, the new Spring colours were almost blinding

One of my favourite spots was a little settlement called Otira, in the hills. Here are some horses on a smallholding bypassing that ancient tractor, coming to see us

And this seemed quite Lord of the Rings...

  1. If you want to know about Taylor's Mistake try my nephew's blog: http://worldsenz.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/hares-tail-grass-taylors-mistake.html
He has a series of Taylor's Mistake views here.
If I had known you were going to NZ I could have given you lots of contacts (but you probably have your own). My husband was a 3rd generation NZer and all his family are still there. I've never been.

  2. Beautiful! I know that for your last post, when I clicked on it from my Feedly it said that the post was not available. Don't know why.

  3. That is weird. Two came in and now nothing is working again.

  4. Beautiful view of NZ Jenny - it is somewhere that I would like to visit but the length of the flight deters me.
Hope this comment arrives OK with you.

  8. Oh dear. I've had a very reflective day. I was just getting over it - my longing for my other home - and now you post about New Zealand. I'm destined to go to bed with the country in my hear and in my mind.

  13. I have a professor years ago who was from New Zealand. He had be convinced that if there was any sort of geography anywhere in the world than it was in New Zealand too. Over the years, I've decided that he was right.

  15. Ahhhh, the blessed blog and the non-answering help center, I have waged war with them a few times. I hope you win the fight.
And your pictures are wonderful and transport me somewhere new! Thank you.

  17. Hello, Jenny! Since I’ve been in the middle of babysitting, I read your past posts on my iPhone but commenting in English on that too small keyboard is a tough thing…, and then time passed. I hope this comment appears successfully. I think my relationship with Blogger has not been smooth, but when a trouble appeared, I stayed away for a while, and then I found the trouble disappearing on its own later. The landscape of New Zealand if breathtaking. You must have relaxed yourself in such a soothing nature from a little of tension of touring Japan with different language.

  18. Beautiful pictures! Keas - don't you just love them! I've seen documentaries about them and have spent some entertaining hours in front of their volière at the zoo in Stuttgart.
I think my favourite picture of this post is the third from the bottom. It looks like a place I'd love to explore.

  19. The photos are absolutely breathtaking! I'm delighted to see that your comments are finally back. Things wouldn't be the same without you. And I appreciated your comment on my blog. I think I need a sled with a team of huskies.

  21. I love the pictures, Jenny, especially the last one. By the way all the comments are showing so perhaps it's only you that can't see them. Keep trying with Blogger, it takes ages to get anywhere.

  22. Those photos are stunning. I've been meaning to set aside some time and catch-up on your travels!

  23. Hi Jenny,
so it works again. Do you think we might be tested for wakefulness occasionally? Or perhaps Blogger wants to remind us that it’s all for free and we should be duly grateful that it works?

Anyway, New Zealand really must be one of the most beautiful places on Earth; your pictures portray a truly magnificent landscape.

  25. Oh! I just left a comment on Graham's blog and the last thing I said was that I wanted to visit New Zealand! Thank you for sharing these photos of a place that I would truly love to see myself.
Hope your comments have sorted themselves out. That sounds like a job for one of the characters created by Lewis Carroll. :-)

  27. Great photos, were you on the way to Japan or coming back? Never been to that part of the world. With luck we'll make Japan next year.

  28. It seems Blogger has a few troubles, every now and then. I find so often that I miss posts in my blog roll, and I have to search each blogger out that I haven't seen post for a time. I also have days where my own post doesn't show up for me, yet folks are commenting. Strange sometimes. Your captures here are just simple sensational! A truly worthy post, not to miss! Enjoy your week.

  29. Lovely photos again Jenny. I’ve got a postcard of that parrot, but mine is from a birdpark/zoo.

  30. I also now wonder what was the mistake Taylor made. All these photos are great sites.
Comments are visible to us by the way, but profile pictures are all blank. Hope your issues be resolved soon too.

  31. I am one of your commenters. I've been having troubles with getting email notifications for comments on my blog. They make it to my blog, but then never to my email so that I can personally respond to them like I am used to doing. Just part of them disappear. I've heard that google/blogger is not letting you know if the commenter doesn't have a gmail address? So frustrating! I have times where I am about ready to quit blogging, too, so I know how you feel. Please hang in there. I will always come and read and see what you've been up to even if the powers that be cut us off. ;)

  32. What beautiful photos. I just love everything about your photos.
Japanese son is in NZ right now. With one of his University classes. He is down in Christchurch and he loves it there.

  33. Gorgeous photos! I love parrots. I wish we had some tame, local ones in Toronto. All we get are sweet but idiotic pigeons.

You always have such beautiful photos.

  36. Lovely photos...keeping us going as we miss being in New Zealand.
Blogger has its problems, but on the whole it is the most user friendly. When you think how many blogs there are.....

  37. Some beautiful landscapes there. For some reason I find jetties very romantic. It must be the fact that if you use a jetty, you must be going on a journey somewhere, even if it's a very short journey in a rowing boat, and journeys are always exciting! Re comments, my comments have always appeared okay, except that I usually have to enter them twice....

  38. You saved up some good shots for us. Looks like you had a very interesting visit.

  39. Your photos are stunning as always, Jenny. I'm never likely to travel to New Zealand, as I know how much I'd hate the flight, but seeing these is second best.

  40. Wow -- this is spectacular. Australia and New Zealand have been on my "someday" list (after another trip to Europe). Sometimes "someday" seems less likely! But these are fabulous photos of a gorgeous place.

Weird about the comments. I'll email you. Hope you get this one!
