Versatile Blogger Award.

Look up, open your eyes and pay attention please - I have an announcement. Natalia has kindly included me in the Versatile Blogger Award. Thanks, Natalia.

I'm supposed to share 7 things about myself and pass this award to 15 blogs I've recently discovered, and let the bloggers know they have been nominated. Oh, and add the logo, which is this....

Rather than writing 7 things about myself, I thought I'd put in photos of things that matter to me in some way.

My home and family (though none of them is called Thomas and Edward and we don't live in a train shed but it's symbolic, you understand, because I don't post identifiable images of people I know. )

Alice in Wonderland (I did write a biography of Lewis Carroll after all) and Mickey Mouse, symbol of Disney. I really want to get back to Florida sometime to check out what's changed in WDW. I'm not sure I want to get an I-Visa though, which is now required by the US Government for media visitors. So any Disney visit might have to be a private one. If I win the lottery.

Riding the bike.

And interesting architecture of all periods. This is a staircase in the V&A, one of my favourite museums

Spring is a beautiful season and I like growing different types of daffodils.

I like cats but can't have them because of allergies

I like weird and/or creepy things too. These are snakeskin shoes, spotted in Venice.

As for the blog list, I don't know how recent is "recent." Days, weeks, months? And how good is good? I only follow blogs I like and so they're ALL good, in my opinion.

So if I haven't put your blog here, it doesn't mean I don't like it, Some of my favourite blogs, inevitably, are ones I've been following for a while and I'm sad not to include them

Here goes, in no particular order:

The Chubby Chatterbox A talented illustrator and very funny writer. I LOVE his posts. I'm glad I found this one!

Rurousha South African - Japanese. Great combination and always very intelligent and informative posts. I love other Japanese-themed blogs too but they've been in my list for too long to include in this award.

Running to the Light Dominic Doherty's mix of lyrics and pix somehow gives me the feeling he is on the right track in life, and it cheers me up to read his blog. He just about scrapes in here because I've been reading him for a while.

A Mixed Bag Valerie is one of those amazingly talented people who can do crafts brilliantly and write engagingly. She's a good advert for the Women's Institute, and I wonder if she also makes good jam! :)

Adullamite I always look forward to Adullamite's postings. He casts a cynical eye on life from Essex and makes me laugh and think. And sometimes he makes me think of Tony Hancock.

Georgia Girl with an English Heart Kay, like me, is a Lewis Carroll fan, and she's also an Anglophile living in Georgia, USA. I love to read her "take" on England from the outside.

WanderingWondering. Valentina's travel blog from Spain is honest and interesting, I like how she focuses usually on just one aspect of her travels.

Recollections of a Vagabonde Another travel blog, which has had some very interesting posts about WHY you travel to different destinations.

Mimi in Dublin I loved her recent contest for identifying a really, really weird cookie cutter.

Suldog is another I've just started following. I cracked up when I read his post about the colour of applesauce. If someone can make applesauce fun, they're well worth following IMHO :)

Waystationone Brian is a good poet and good photographer and has a sense of humour. I joined his blog because I couldn't resist his post about socks, funny, true and warm, with a little twist.

Gapyearsthebook Actually I don't follow this blog because I'm too stupid to figure out how. But, like many other blogs I don't follow, I do check it out. Jo went backpacking in her fifties, no holds barred. Brave lady. I read her book and couldn't put it down.

Gimcrack Hospital ANOTHER one I check but don't follow. (I really must get the hang of this technology. If I don't see a followers button, I'm flummoxed.) A very interesting and slightly off the wall blog taking in depth look at weird stuff. Is it all completely true? I don't know :)

Don't Unplug your Hub This is one I have followed, but it doesn't show up in my feed. Another tech problem to sort out someday. He's a briliant artist living in an old showman's wagon with animals.

Emm in London (She's been in Norwich recently, actually). She tells me things about London sometimes that I don't know, and I think I know a lot about London!

I think that's 15, although counting has never been my strong suit :)

Now I suppose I should tell everyone I linked to that they are a recipient of this award. I don't have time right now but if they read my blog they are bound to find out. I need hardly say, that if they don't want to take it up, that's fine by me - it's just a bit of fun!

  1. Awww... thank you so much! I'm off to work in half an hour and won't be home before tonight, so I'll get this done tomorrow! I feel honoured. :-)

Btw, I feel the same way about the blog Emm in London... I've experienced the same about Hamburg though - a few of my friends here who've spent their whole lives in the city, or at least have lived there longer than I do, have never been to places I've "discovered" while exploring the city...

  3. Jenny:

I thank you for the honor. In another life, I was known for being downright rude when accepting such honors. I have mellowed, though, and you should have no fear. However, if you wish to find out what you could have been in for...

  5. I'm not sure what gave me the biggest "skrik" (Afrikaans for fright): the snake shoes or seeing my blog on your list! Thanks for including me (and for telling me about so many other interesting blogs)! It's been fun chatting to you about Japan and Egypt and cats etc etc etc. Long may it continue.

Cats, daffodils, bikes and interesting museums. Yes, me too! ^^

  6. Congratulations on the award.

What a great idea to post seven pictures! I don't like those shoes - I think snake skin looks best on snakes, but I do like the flowers and the cats and the staircase and the bike x

  7. A BIG congrats on receiving this award, Jenny!

    Woot! Woot! Woot!

LOVE the photos you share here today. The lighting in the staircase shot in the museum is stunning!

  10. Super idea posting photos instead of just telling us 7 things about yourself. I'm glad I found you!

  12. Congratulations! I adore the shoes. Although I probably wouldn't wear them, I think they would be a fabulous conversation piece. Alice and I have a bit in common. I often feel as if I have fallen in a rabbit hole. I love checking out new blogs. Bonnie

  14. Congratulations! What a brilliant idea to post pictures that say things about yourself rather than the usual way of making a list. Surprised to learn that you like creepy crawly things. For a moment I thought you might be admitting to having a shoe fetish.

  15. Jenny, it`s always so interesting to read your blog, but this post is a special :o) Thanks for sharing.
    Take care

  16. I like the photos which say things about you; clever way f getting out of identifying yourself and your family.

I have long given up accepting awards, they are too time-consuming.

  17. Sorry, I forgot to say 'congratulations'.

  18. Congratulations on the award Jenny. I liked seeing you change it up a bit and use pictures for the answers to the questions. Shoes are interesting but not so much for this gal . . . smile . . .

  19. I feel sorry for those shoes, or rather the creatures they are made from. Thank you for your kind words about my blog.

  20. Between the shoes and eye balls, I think I have the shivers here!! Can one say EEEEEEWWWWWWWWW :o)

  22. Hi Jenny,
I think this particular award is a great compliment to your ability to do a variety of writing styles and genres. Thus, very well done and I like your utilisation of using those wonderful photos.
Congratulations to you, my friend and to those you have forwarded the award onto.
I would also like to thank you kindly for leaving such a thoughtful comment on my latest posting.
Take very good care and happy writing.
    With respect, Gary

  23. As I've mentioned before, I'm a savage barbarian with no manners. I should've added congratulations. I didn't. I apologize with a very deep, very humble Japanese dogeza bow. Congratulations! :)

Those eyes and shoes creep me out.

    ReplyDelete
  26. thank you so much! And yes, as far as I'm aware all the stories are true.

    ReplyDelete
  27. A versatile blogger indeed. I like the idea of meaningful photos rather than text. Those snakeskin shoes are truly weird. Poor snakes, ending up as someone's footwear....

    ReplyDelete
  28. You've just reminded me that it's been way too many years since I visited the v&A.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Love the staircase at the V&A (I've yet to make it there) and those slippers... well, what can I say about them!

I am honoured that you included me in the award ceremony and thank you for your complementary remarks. However I must decline your offer. It was something I decided to do some time back and to avoid hurting others I prefer not to retract the decision. I am, though, truly grateful that you thought about me.

No, I don't make jam... smiles. That in itself is a good advert for WI!

  30. Ooops, I forgot to congratulate you on YOUR award. It is well deserved.

  32. Thanks for all the comments and I'm glad the picture points were well received.
Your comment resonated with me, Valerie. Im thinking about it now...

  33. Well done. I like your take on the 'writing about yourself'.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Congrats on the award! And oh, I love the staircase in the V&A.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Your way of writing about yourself is sure really interesting! :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Love the staircase and the bike! Not sure I would ride mine in London now though I used to.

    Cynical, me?

    ReplyDelete
  37. did it! http://dominic-doherty.blogspot.com/2012/02/promise.html

While I wanted to say congrats to you and also thank you for including me, I'm not going to name 15 bloggers... I just can't think of that many blogs I've only recently subscribed too hahah... I haven't had the time to explore a whole bunch of new blogs in a while...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yay! I made the list! Thank you so much. I like that you used photos instead of words to tell us your story. I like the photo of the bike and the Alice in Wonderland door handle.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Congratulations! Such interesting shoes!

    ReplyDelete
  40. congratulations on getting the award..i wish you get many many more in your life... and wow this is some idea...posting pictures of the things you love... :)
