Mondaye Abbey

Saw some magical and almost theatrical effects of the light at Mondaye Abbey, near Calvados, in Normandy.   The blaze of light was so great that we almost felt that an angel must be inside the abbey, just out of sight, waiting to emerge and amaze those outside.  Or, if not an angel, at least a very large and imposing light. .

The brilliant light cast a semi circle onto the grass beyond

The ducks inside the abbey courtyard faced this way and that, casting shadows.

  3. Lovely photographs. It does appear that an angel will step through the arch at any moment, or is waiting for someone to step in.

  5. Very beautiful indeed. I do have a thing for doors and doorways, so the light coming through the arch truly appeals to me.

  7. I love these photos. Looks like sun is a hand reaching out to touch grass and ducks.

  9. The intensity of light in the top pic is astonishing. The sort of light you would only expect somewhere like Australia.

  11. Brilliant and beautiful, but you don't give us the source of the light!

  14. Actually Dave it was the sun, I don't understand how it was so bright and white and strong - maybe a peculiarity of the layout of the abbey buildings. It was quite remarkable to be there and see it. I wonder if it's always like that.

  15. I love openings and gateways, I think it is the idea of looking through, almost like an image within an image.

  17. Louis Macnice's "Sunlight on the Garden" would be fitting here.

  19. Well that's just the glow you get after drinking a glass of that delicious Calvados Pays d'Auge Grand Solage V.S.O.P.

  21. You captured the light so magically here! Love this.

I just noticed on your profile that you like the Studio Ghibli. I love anything Hayao Miyazaki does (at least, the several animated films I've seen).
