More "summery" pictures from England....  Here are some morris dancers at Aldbourne, Berks, beneath lowering skies.

The pier at Southwold...

And a London scene...

Ah, well, I still prefer it to the broiling heat and humidity that some people are suffering in other parts of the world.....

  1. That opener was too funny! I actually think I'd like a day or two of your weather. Why is it we always want someone elses weather? ha!

  3. I think I'd like to try the broiling heat, just for a short time. Any heat, actually.

  6. Love the opening of this post.
I'm in the broiling part of the world...well, broiling for Canada, but I'll take it over what we usually have which is -48 degree weather and snow.

  7. I can deal with our 90˚s(F) since we don't have the humidity. And it poured today.

    Try this map. Humigeddon.

  9. Very good! (your intro...not your weather!!!)

  10. Ah so that's why summer isn't working - should have known it'd be a 404! I don't like stifling heat, but it would be nice to see a bit more of the sun!

  11. For the past few days, over here in the South of Germany it has been feeling more like October than July. I honestly thought about turning up the heating this morning, the bathroom felt so chilly.
Give me broiling heat anytime - you won't ever hear me complain about that!

  12. LOL

You can have the sunshine here! I wish it's less hot over here. :(

  13. Thanks for the comments. I'll tell Vanessa, she'll be pleased that her thoughts amused so many people!

  14. Summer is 44% installed! I love it! Someday we probably will be at the mercy of some impersonal celestial software....

  15. That's hilarious, I've just posted about exactly the same thing. All the photos I took today look like it's September!

  16. Hi, Jenny! These three days we've been experiencing cooler days due to unexpected typhoon. The weather will get back to sizzling and sweltering heat soon. I welcome rain. Only rain can soften the heat. Come once to Japan in summer, and maybe you'll appreciate wet weather.

  17. My idea of hell is hot, humid weather. I love it when it is sunny, slightly warm, and breezy.

  18. But just look at how the garden is growing....and we haven't had the hosepipe ban yet.
Always look on the bright side!

  19. That just made me laugh so much! Thanks for posting this, I might just re-share it ;-)

I hope your week is good despite the weather.

Thanks for your lovely birthday wishes, Dylan really liked all the attention ;-) xo

  20. I'd never bought so many umbrellas in my life as when I lived in London!

  21. What a witty opening! You can laugh away the unpleasant weather.
Anyway it was lucky the rain didn't spoil the dancing parade? Looks "morris dancers" are all men. Is that a tradition?

  22. Hilarious opener!
Yes, I do prefer rain to the endless heatwave we've got here; that's summer rain we're talking about though.
Love the glimpses of life in England!

  23. Hi there - great opening lines. However, when its 40+ and it feels like it will never rain again I seem to spend a lot of time thinking about grey, rain filled and English weather!

  24. Hello Jenny:
So imaginatively done! An iconic post, we think although, sadly, the weather which you have captured seems also to be an 'iconic' English summer. We have to say that spending more of our time in Budapest rather than Brighton does give us the opportunity for plenty of sun in the summer and plenty of snow in the winter, both of which tend to be missing in the UK.

Thank you for the kind comments which you left on our blog, which we were delighted to receive. Ever since, we have been trying to track you down. Now we have found you we have signed up as followers to keep track!

  25. Ah, Jenny...we could use a little of that non-summer around here...but thunder is rolling in...loved your street scenes.

  27. "My idea of hell is hot, humid weather. I love it when it is sunny, slightly warm, and breezy."

Hello again, Jenny. Japan's summer is notoriously hot and humid even when it's sunny. High humidity slows down evaporation, the natural way of cooling. Wish you sunny, breezy days ahead.

  28. I wish you have a pleasant summer soon.

  29. Oh my goodness! This looks like Sydney! We are having torrential downpours here. They say it's the worst drenching we've had for 23 years. These are lovely photos though and I actually don;t mind a bit of rain every now and then!

  30. Too funny. It felt that way in June but it's been a very hot couple of weeks since. Lovely, moody photos. Thanks for your visit to my blog.

  31. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I enjoyed reading yours. Got a laugh out of the summer having its name changed or being temporarily unavailable. Although most of the US is baking under a high pressure heat wave, our part of the states is just right...for once.

By the way. You most certainly would not want to bathe in the hot pools at Yellowstone Park. One, because it is expressly forbidden and Two, the water is boiling hot. People who get in that water die.

  32. Jenny Woolf,
The worst part of Japanese scorching summer is humidity. The situation will drastically change, almost paradise or hell; it depends on that it is dry or humid even in the same high temperature.
We have so many onomatopoeias in Japanese language to express this extreme humidity such as "Jike Jike","Jime Jime" "Jito Jito" and more. Do you feel notorious humidity in Japan from them?

  34. @everybody, thanks for all the interesting comments you have made on this post!

@snowwhite, I have been thinking about hot Japanese weather since reading your latest posts. I don't feel the humidity from those words, though. Do you hear the onomatopoeia in the word "slosh"? (which reminds me of going through puddles). @Leenie, thanks for the tip about the pools, I know in Iceland you can bathe in the hot volcanic springs. But wouldn't it be nice to bathe in a rainbow pool??? like a fairytale.

  35. An absolutely brilliant post, kicked off by a stroke of genius. I confess I had to do a double take. Congratulations on the idea. I just hope it hasn't detracted from the quality of the rest. An absolute winner.

  36. Too funny. We've had a very cool summer so far but not much rain. Anything but a heat wave suits me.

  40. Brilliant! I prefer it to broiling heat too though-especially when I am working as it is pretty unbearable in the nursery in the heat!

  41. I've always enjoyed warm weather rather than cold weather. Thus, I live in Florida. Although in recent weeks, Florida has been cooler than other parts of the world!

Cold, rainy climates are too depressing. And snow? Forget it! :-)
